The estate01

Green gold

In the late nineteenth century, Yucatán's henequén fiber — 'green gold' — funded some of the most lavish estates in the Americas. This estate was one of them: a working sisal plantation whose casco, machine houses, and field infrastructure were built to last centuries.

When synthetic fibers collapsed the industry, estates like this one fell quiet. The buildings endured; the purpose did not. The question the project set out to answer: what is a hacienda for, a hundred years after its crop?

The transformation02

A working estate, reimagined

Rather than converting the historic structures into guest rooms, the project inverted the usual hacienda-hotel formula. The casco — the estate's main house — was restored as the property's restaurant, keeping the most storied architecture at the social heart of the guest experience.

Accommodation moved out into the landscape: fifteen luxury tents in two categories, set within the working henequén fields. The land itself became the product — exactly the discipline AXS Outdoor builds around.

The experience03

Canvas, with conviction

The tents earn hotel-grade rates because nothing around them is improvised: a main pool, a sound-healing room, and wellness spaces are built from sustainably sourced materials, and the experience program — cenotes, henequén field tours, stargazing, sound baths — is drawn from the place rather than imported to it.

The result is outdoor hospitality in the sense AXS means it: not a hotel with canvas walls, but an estate whose land, history, and operations were engineered to carry the stay.
